Philadelphia: Worldtown Festival: World Cup Edition at the Piazza next weekend
PRESS RELEASE
Philadelphia(Thursday, June 5, 2014)- Celebrate cultural diversity through art, music, food and the world’s favorite sport, soccer! This family friendly festival will be held Saturday, June 14, 2014 from 11 am to 9 pm at Schmidt’s Piazza, one of Philadelphia’s premier outdoor venues. The Piazza is located at 2nd Street and Germantown Avenue in the Northern Liberties area of Philadelphia.
This summer, Worldtown plans to unite the multicultural community of Philadelphia with a much larger global occurrence – The 2014 World Cup. All four of Saturday’s World Cup Games will be broadcast on The Piazza’s 40 foot high Jumbotron and a two on two soccer tourney will be hosted by Philadelphia Sports Network.
Guests will enjoy DJs and live music from around the globe including Worldtown Sound System, Juanderful, West Philly Orchestra, El Caribe Funk, and more. Worldtown also presents salsa dance performances by LaLuna Dance Studio and tribal dance by Setu Tribe.
Please visit the Worldtown Bazaar featuring original fashions and artisanal crafts. Delights await at the various food vendors and food trucks, and plenty of action for those who are not watching soccer. Carnival performers will enchant, and the day’s activities include face painters, drumming workshops, hula dance workshops, yoga, and youth painting workshops.
The Worldtown Beer Garden, featuring Slyfox Brewery and Pabst Blue Ribbon, will be open to the over 21 crowd as well.
Proceeds will benefit local non-profit organizations who support our community. FIG Family Restoration Corporation (501c3), and Small but Mighty Arts are among them. There is a call out to people in the Philadelphia area to bring any gently used instruments or sports equipment to the festival for donation. These items are desperately needed.
