Peyton Reed hired to direct ‘Ant-Man’ with Adam McKay as writer
Marvel is working quickly to keep Ant-Man on schedule with the news that Yes Man, Break-Up and Bring It On director Peyton Reed has been hired to lead the superhero film. Rumored director Adam McKay will actually be on-board as the screenwriter.
Director Edgar Wright departed, shocking fans and prompting star Michael Douglas to say it’s disappointing.
“I was very disappointed. I am a big fan of his movies. It’s a very disappointing situation. It happened very late in the game. I don’t think anybody’s quite recovered. My heart goes out to Edgar. He’s been involved with the project for a long time. But he’s talented enough that you’ll be hearing a whole lot from him – and I’m sure with a little vengeance.”
Here’s Marvel’s official statement:
When Marvel’s “Ant-Man” hits theaters July 17, 2015, director Peyton Reed will help shepherd the hero into the Marvel Cinematic Universe with a cast led by Paul Rudd and Michael Douglas, with writer Adam McKay contributing to the film’s script.
Armed with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, con-man Scott Lang (Rudd) must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym (Douglas), protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit from a new generation of towering threats. Against seemingly insurmountable obstacles, Pym and Lang must plan and pull off a heist that will save the world.
The film stars Paul Rudd, Michael Douglas, Michael Peña, Patrick Wilson, Evangeline Lilly, and Corey Stoll, Ant-Man opens July 17, 2015.
