Peter Mayhew will reprise his role as Chewbacca to appear in ‘Star Wars Episode VII’

Fans know the iconic characters from the original Star Wars trilogy are set to make an appearance in the new film, but they will certainly be pleased to learn star Peter Mayhew will don his Wookie suit and play Chewbacca atleast one more time.

Chewbacca Han Solo Star Wars classic photoTHR reports in an April 7 article that Mayhew will be back as the article notes “Rumors recently surfaced that he was reprising his role after he canceled an upcoming appearance at Texas convention Comicpalooza “due to filming.” Since the convention takes place May 23-26, many fans wondered if that meant the actor would be busy with Episode VII.”

In March Disney CEO Bob Iger promised some “very familiar faces” which aligns with the rumored appearances by Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher.

Disney Studios chairman Alan Horn revealed on April 2 that the new Star Wars had already begun filming and most of the cast was set. “We have a lot of them [in place],” he said about the main actors, whose names have not been disclosed. “We’re just not completely done yet.”

Star Wars Episode VII is set for theaters December 19, 2015.
