Peter Dinklage joins ‘X-Men Days of Future Past’ as villain, could be the last for Hugh Jackman as Wolverine
Peter Dinklage is confirmed to be taking on the role of a villain in X-Men: Days of Future Past. Director Bryan Singer had kept quiet about the specifics of the role he’d play, but Variety have now reported that he will assume the role of “the main antagonist”, set more than a decade after the events which unfolded in First Class.
Singer tweeted: “Officially like to welcome #PeterDinklage from #GameOfThrones to #XMEN #DaysofFuturePast Very very excited!”
Additionally Hugh Jackman is not committed to reprise his Wolverine role in any future projects beyond next year’s X-Men: Days of Future Past.
Counting the cameo in X-Men: First Class, Jackman will have played the popular mutant seven times by the end of 2014.
During an extensive interview with THR, the original casting was recounted and detailed. When Singer and Fox asked for a multipicture commitment, Jackman was delighted. He didn’t realize that the fewer films he signed on for, the more leverage he would have if the producers wanted him back. “Here’s my naivete,” he laughs. “I was like, ‘Fantastic!’ My agent goes: ‘No. You’ll learn.’ I said, ‘They’re going to guarantee me three jobs, and you’ve got it down to two?’ I was so stupid. By the third, X-Men: The Last Stand, I understood.”
Dinklage joins rank with James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult as well as original trilogy cast members Jackman, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Anna Paquin, Ellen Page and Shawn Ashmore.
“X-Men: Days of Future Past” comes to theaters July 18, 2014.
