Pennsylvania murder suicide: Barbara Evans shot and killed by husband, Charles Evans
Chambersburg police released more information Thursday about a murder-suicide at a borough home making Pennsylvania headlines.
Charles Evans Jr., 65, shot and killed his wife, Barbara Evans, 67, before turning the handgun on himself Wednesday morning.
Detective Sgt. Jon Greenawalt spoke with the press, detailing how the bodies were discovered Wednesday afternoon in the home in the first block of North Federal Street, near the Salvation Army.
“The incident is isolated to the parties discovered at the scene, (which is) within the residence. This incident posed no danger to any other members of the public at large,” the police had said in a statement.
The Evans pair had been married 37 years and family and friends are struggling with their loss and trying to figure out how to help Barb’s daughter Traci Whitfield as she struggles with grief and tries to make funeral arrangements for her mother.
“If you had any type of problem, she was there for you,” a friend, Shalon Marie Logan said.”Everyone who knew her loved her.”
BonNee Long called her “a wonderful, beautiful, loving and kindhearted person,” saying they had been neighbors and friends for 15 years.
“She will be surely missed for a very long time,” Long said in a social media tribute to Evans.
Her family is still reeling from the shock of the murder-suicide that took her life, Logan said.
Logan started the Go Fund Me crowdfunding website in an effort to help Evans’ family with funeral costs. She said Evans apparently had no insurance.
