Paul Greengrass jokes on ‘Jason Bourne’ whereabouts
The return of Matt Damon as Jason Bourne as excited fans as the first teaser at the Super Bowl. Titled Jason Bourne, director Paul Greengrass also returned to the franchise and now gives fans a bit of history, teasing the sequel for Entertainment Weekly’s Summer Movie Preview issue.
EW posted the Jason Bourne section of the issue online on April 1, in which Greengrass offers a mysterious response to where Bourne has been since he disappeared in The Bourne Ultimatum nine years ago.
“He’s been in the shadows of Europe.”
Bourne was previously revealed to be starting the movie in Greece, where he has clearly kept in shape knocking out people with one punch, a detail revealed in the teaser.
Greengrass would only say he’s been doing “hard physical work,” which required Damon to bulk up and ultimately convinced his old director to come back with him.
“You don’t make a movie unless you’re 1000 percent committed to make the best movie we can, and you don’t make this kind of movie unless you think it can be a worthy successor to the other movies we made,” Greengrass explains. “That phenomenal Jason Bourne shape was a segment of intent.”
When Damon proved he still had that shape on the first day of filming, Greengrass and everyone else was taken aback.
“It gave all of us the most immense shock, because you think ‘Oh my god. This is weird. This is Jason Bourne, and he’s back,” shares Greengrass. “That’s sort of exciting.”
Jason Bourne involves cyber warfare and now will star Tommy Lee Jones and Alicia Vikander as two vastly different government operatives on the Bourne case, Julia Stiles returns as Nicky, a character from the first three films.
News and details revealed Bourne in a car chase, crashing into cars through the streets of Las Vegas.
Jason Bourne arrives in theaters on July 29, 2016.
