Patrick Stewart talks about returning for ‘X-Men Days of Future Past,’ and reveals his ‘Star Trek’ mementos

X-Men fans couldn’t be happier these with another film in the works, the return of director Bryan Singer, Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen to the franchise. While talking with Hero Complex in an interview published Wednesday, Stewart conveyed his excitement to reprise his role as Professor Xavier and recalled details for his days on “Star Trek: The Next Generation.”

“I’m very happy to report that Bryan Singer is coming back to direct the movie. I’m very happy that my lovely friend Ian McKellen is going to be with me. I don’t know anyone else who is to be involved in the project. Maybe it’s just the two of us! That would be a movie! Magneto and Xavier’s conversations…. I’m not being cute. That’s all I know. Maybe once the holidays are over, more information will begin to come through. I have a vague idea of the time commitments, but I don’t know where we’re going to shoot. But I’m greatly looking forward to it.

The interview recounts much of Stewart’s time on television, working on Broadway and even delving into Sci-Fi convention talk. Stewart was asked about keeping “mementos” from TNG.

“I don’t have a lot. In fact I have only one physical item from the seven years on TV and eight years of movies. What I do have is a complete, annotated cataloged collection of every script. Every rewrite, every draft, everything. One of my colleagues on Day 2 of the show, seeing me collating new pages on the pilot episode and watching me toss the old pages into a recycling bin very wisely said, “Nooooo. Save everything.”

“X-Men: Days of Future Past” is set to begin production in early 2013 with a release date in theaters on July 18, 2014.
