Paramount delays ‘GI Joe: Retaliation,’ will add new scenes for 3D

The “G.I. Joe” sequel was set to come to theaters a month from now, but a sruprise announcement from Paramount pushed the release date back to the Spring. Deadline reported the news Wednesday, that the success of 3D, especially overseas, has the studio putting the film back through some post-production upgrades.

“We’re going to do a conscientious 3D job because we’ve seen how it can better box office internationally,” one of the studio execs told Deadline. “Jim Cameron did all of Titanic‘s 3D in post — and look how well that movie turned out.”

“G.I. Joe: Retaliation” was set for a June 29th release featuring an ensemble cast, full of new additions.

Chinese and Russian audiences have flocked to the 3D films and at the extra cost, Paramount is hoping to reap a huge Spring box office. The incredible opening of “The Hunger Games” may have influenced the decision as well.

Director Jon Chu has excited fans by discussing his influence of the comic book and adding stars Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Bruce Willis.

According to Johnson, who plays Rockblock, it will be worth the wait and there will be new scenes. When asked on Twitter, he said:  “It will be.”  Responding on Twitter follower @JimmyinGA, Johnson said the production was “Designing new scenes to enhance 3D.”

The new release date for “Retaliation” is March 29th.

“G.I. Joe Retaliation” stars Dwayne Johnson, Channing Tatum, Bruce Willis, Adrianne Palicki, D.J. Cotrona, Byung-hun Lee, Ray Park, RZA, Joseph Mazzello, Elodie Yung, and Walton Goggins.
