Oscar Pistorius vomits in courtroom listening to autopsy details
During the murder trial of “Blade Runner” Oscar Pistorius Monday in the Pretoria courtroom, the Para -Olympian bent over retching and vomiting while details of the autopsy on his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp were explained during a pathologists testimony.
The testimony by Pathologist, Gert Saayman, who performed the autopsy on Reeva Steenkamp’s body, was so graphic that it was not broadcast or reported live on social media by journalists under an order from Judge Thokozile Masipa, the Associated Press recounts.
In court, Saayman confirmed that Steenkamp died from multiple gunshot wounds, consistent with having been hit in the head, arm and hip by three shots fired through the locked door of a toilet cubicle.
Pistorius admits he shot Steenkamp last Valentines Day; however, he says that it was a tragic case of mistaken identity and that he thought she was an intruder who had broken into his home.
The judge stopped the testimony to ask chief defense lawyer Barry Roux to attend to his retching client.
“Is your client fine?” the judge asked Roux.
Roux replied: “It’s not going to be fine.”
Roux said Pistorius’ reaction was not going to change. A dark bucket with a handle was placed at his feet.
The 27 year old Pistorius is charged with premeditated murder for killing Steenkamp and could face up to life in prison if convicted.
