One of New York’s first lesbian couples who married is headed to divorce court
A lesbian couple who married six days after New York’s Marriage Equality Act took effect last summer have gone public with their breakup, becoming one of the first gay divorces in the state.

The NY Daily News quotes the pair: “I do very much feel like the president of the loneliest club in the world,” photographer Dese’Rae Stage, 29, wrote on her blog about her split with masseuse Katie Marks, also 29.
“How many gay divorcees do you know? It’s a horrible feeling to go through this huge life upheaval without the support of others who know exactly what you’re feeling.”
The couple was married in 2008 in Central Park. Their engagement photograph is still on the chapel’s website and they were highlighted in the Village Voice.
Sadly, their relationship has crumbled, one of the women has met someone else on the Internet, they have separated and filed for divorce.
“We have no assets, no children. The only thing we have to deal with is $10,000 worth of debt in preparations for a big wedding celebration we planned in Boston over Memorial Day weekend,” Stage said.
