Oman reports first MERS coronavirus case, France ‘rules out’ probable case
The government of Oman, on southeast coast of the Arabian Peninsula, has reported their first case of Middle East Respiratory Syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV), according to a Oman Daily Observer report Wednesday.

Under-Secretary for Health Affairs, Mohamed bin Saif al Hosni said that affected patient is undergoing treatment at a hospital and his condition is stable.
The case has yet to be acknowledged by the World Health Organization (WHO), leaving the global total remaining at 145 laboratory-confirmed cases of infection with MERS-CoV, including 62 deaths.
In a follow-up to a report yesterday, the Pasteur Institute has reported that the probable case previosly reported is actually negative for the MERS-CoV, according to a Ministry of Social Affairs and Health press release Oct. 30 (computer translated).
The MERS-CoV current case count in France remains at two. Both cases were reported in May 2013.
Saudi Arabia has been the country hardest hit by the novel coronavirus since its emergence in 2012, recording 124 cases and 52 deaths.
