Girard Police Chief John Norman tells 21 News, “The mother who has a valid CCW permit – even though she was in her own house, was startled by some noises she heard in the kitchen or hallway area. She stated that the bedroom door opened where she was at — and she had a gun readily available and she fired a round at someone coming through the door.”
Chief Norman said the mother, was clearly distraught. Only realizing it was her daughter who was shot — after she fired the .38 special.
“We will collect all the facts, and we will present it to a Prosecutor, not to be malicious. But we have to present the facts like we would in any other case. At that point the Prosecutor will make a decision whether we will go ahead and charge or not charge in this case,” Chief Norman said.

I sure am lucky to still be here! It still baffles my mind to know that I could be dead, but thankfully I had an angel looking over me that night.
On August 30th at around 8:00 P.M. I got home from college to surprise my family and boyfriend, I stopped at his house first and then went to my moms. At around 8:55 P.M I ran through the door with excitement to see my mother but she had no idea I was coming and thought someone broke in to hurt her and as I ran through the door she was in fear for her life and shot me. I crouched down and let out two screams and then latched on to my arm where I was shot to apply pressure and then raise my arm above my head. I told her to call 911 but she was panicked, my boyfriend Adrien then came around the corner. He heard me scream and ran into the house because we drove separate and he didn’t even make it into the house yet but when he did I then I told him to call 911, he did. I walked to the bathroom and my mom tied a towel around my arm as we waited for the ambulance to come, her 9 o’clock alarm went off and honestly was driving me crazy so I got up and shut that off and then told her that it would be best if we went outside to get to the ambulance faster and as I went out the door I felt faint. I didn’t pass out though, I regained my composure and Eventually made it Down the driveway as my boyfriend chased the ambulance down to my house. From then I was in the ambulance and at the hospital. They asked tons of questions and took xrays and all of the sorts. My elbow was broken in 3 spots along with bullet fragments in my elbow, the next day I went into surgery and ended up with 8 screws and plates in my right arm along with a huge ass incision. It truly has been a crazy few days, but I am beyond thankful to still be here on this earth today. I am so lucky and grateful for everyone and everything. Although it’s gonna be a long painful journey and recovery, I am happy to still be here. Thank you to everyone who reached out and helped, I love you all ❤️
