Officials Announce the Arrest of Darrion Lamar Powers for Bank Robbery
The Cleveland Division of the FBI, the Akron Police Department, and the United States Attorney’s Office announce the arrest of Darrion Lamar Powers, age 22, of Akron.
Powers has been charged with bank robbery for the robbery of the PNC Bank located at 181 Massillon Road, Akron, Ohio, on February 12, 2019.
Powers is accused of brandishing a knife, jumping the teller counter, and demanding and obtaining money from bank tellers.
Powers was identified as possibly fitting the description of this robbery and other robberies in the area and driving a vehicle similar to the getaway vehicle observed. Upon notification of the robbery and the description of the robber and vehicle, Akron Police Department dispatched a police squad car to Powers’ residence. Powers returned home and in plain view inside the vehicle were items believed to be associated with the bank robbery. Powers was placed into custody and a search warrant was obtained.
It is believed that Powers is responsible for other robberies in Akron and nearby communities, additional charges are anticipated.
Powers was placed into federal custody this morning, March 20, 2019, after being held in the Summit County Jail. Powers will be in U.S. Magistrate Judge Kathleen Burke’s courtroom this afternoon, March 20, 2019, at approximately 2:30 p.m.
A complaint is only a charge and is not evidence of guilt. A defendant is entitled to a fair trial in which it will be the government’s burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
