‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ Movie rumored to start production in 2019, 2020 release
The long rumored Obi-Wan Kenobi spin-off Star Wars film may actually be headed to production sooner than later.
According to Omega Underground, who tend to be fairly accurate with shoot dates, filming is set to begin at Pinewood Studios UK sometime in January of 2019, putting it on track for a 2020 release.
No plot details have been confirmed yet, but the story is expected to follow the Jedi master’s adventures on Tatooine between the events of Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope.
No word on whether Ewan McGregor will return as Kenobi, but the actor has repeatedly expressed interest in reprising the role so it’s probably a safe enough bet.
Reporter Yvonne Villarreal was able to ask Ewan McGregor about the rumored Obi-Wan spinoff during the red carpet at the Golden Globes.
“There’s a lot of talk, and I’d be happy to play him again, but I don’t know anything more than you do,” McGregor told reporters backstage at Sunday’s Golden Globes. “I saw the new one over Christmas and I thought it was really, really beautiful,” said McGregor.
