Obama administration using NSA to monitor Netanyahu, Congress, doesn’t report communications

The Wall Street Journal ran an article Tuesday titled “U.S. Spy Net on Israel Snares Congress,” detailing how the Obama administration’s National Security Agency’s “targeting of Israeli leaders swept up the content of private conversations with U.S. lawmakers.”

In summary: President Obama is using the NSA to spy on Congress.

As Newsbusters points out: “Yet the Associated Press ignored it on Tuesday, and most of Wednesday. Finally, at 7:15 p.m. Eastern Time on Wednesday, the AP ran a story by Erica Werner — about how Republicans are planning to investigate the matter. When it ran the story, the AP included it at its “Big Story” site, which of course begs the question: If it was such a “big story,” why did you wait over 24 hours to cover it?”

The shocking summation would be and should be headlines everywhere:

A report in The Wall Street Journal said that even after President Barack Obama announced two years ago he would limit spying on friendly heads of state, the NSA kept watch on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and top Israeli officials.

In the process the agency caught some conversations with U.S. lawmakers, according to the report.

That’s something that would typically be reported to top congressional leaders and the heads of the House and Senate Intelligence committees, but Nunes said he recalled receiving no such notification.

Open confirmation that the Obama administration is spying on the Israeli PM and that the communications snared are never shared with Congress.

The NSA’s spying on Merkel, personally approved by Obama himself, made the sensational headlines in late 2013.

Beyond the monitoring of Netanyahu, “The primary Journal story indicates the White House received the contents of many congressional communications, and that the administration blew off the notification requirement,” points out Newsbusters.
