North Carolina human trafficking sting leads to arrests of Autumn Beal, Gregory Sterling, Alicia Halstead

The FBI and Hagerstown Police Department charged three people during a human-trafficking sting that was conducted Tuesday at hotels in the city.

Hagerstown police said in a news release that the undercover operation produced three arrests out of six contacts.

Charged were Autumn Jesie Beal, 18, of Newport, N.C.; Gregory David Sterling, 29, of Durham, N.C.; and Alicia Sue Halstead, 33, of West Virginia.

Police said Beal was charged with prostitution-general, and Sterling was charged with prostitution-business and human trafficking-compensation.

Halstead was arrested on outstanding warrants from Virginia and West Virginia.

All three were taken to the Washington County Detention Center.

Hagerstown police Officer Heather Aleshire said Halstead is the only one who is still being detained.
