North Carolina: Emmanuel Diaz Juarez identified as body found in Falls Lake
Authorities identified the body of a 23-year-old man from Falls Lake on Saturday, the morning after crews suspended a search for a man who was seen struggling in the water. Emmanuel Diaz Juarez of Raleigh was that man, even confirmed by family members.
Juarez’s body was taken to the Medical Examiner’s Office and police say the investigation is still ongoing.
Wake County sheriff Donnie Harrison said visitors reported seeing a male swimmer in distress shortly after 5 p.m. on Friday. Teams searched but never found anyone, and eventually suspended the search Friday night due to lightning in the area.
A spokeswoman for the North Carolina state park said a body was recovered around 9:30 a.m. Saturday
A search didn’t turn up anything Friday, but Wake County Sheriff Donnie Harrison said a “vehicle of interest” was found near the lake.
The sheriff’s office is trying to find the owner of the vehicle.
Northern Wake Fire Department, Wildlife, NC State Parks, Wake EMS, and Durham County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team assisted in the operation.
