‘Noah’ vs ‘Heaven is for Real’ battle begins
The world loves to dictate what Evangelical Christians should believe, how they should react and criticize them for not behaving accordingly.
While the writer doesn’t express his personal religious beliefs, he was quick to attack Christians for their “potential” reaction to two faith-based set for 2014, just days after the trailers landed online.
Noah, the big budget production with a big name cast, has all of the features loved by Hollywood while the lower budget Heaven is for Real is led by Greg Kinnear.
That trailers for each film landed this week and Slacktivist wasted no time dictating the appropriate response to the films (with a tint of racial insult.)
“The screwy, backwards thing about these two movies is that white evangelicals are probably going to be upset by the wrong one,” the article states.
The writer proceeds to criticize Christians who will speak out against the Noah adaptation for using doctrine from outside of the Bible and taking creative liberty.
“For people who think the story of Noah is “history,” any addition to or deviation from the 2,250 words of the English translation of Genesis will be viewed negatively. That probably won’t be expressed as a mere difference of artistic opinion.”
‘Whites’ are targeted again for liking Heaven Is For Real and by layering insults upon opinion.
“It’s theology may be horrifically anti-biblical, but it’s got the two essential things that American white evangelicals are looking for: gormless piety and sentimental anti-abortionism.”
The creative license in director Darren Aronofsky’s Noah will likely be praised by Hollywood, a sharp contrast the opinions of Mel Gibson and his Passion of the Christ.
Like liberal Hollywood the writer assigns the “artists” as the good guys and the Bible believing Christians (who are white) as the bad guys.
The “bad guys” are thoughtless, mindless drones who believe the Bible is fact and care for Hollywood’s creative license.
Sadly, the writer’s assertions will likely be true and he can tuck himself in at night by patting himself on the back for being so right about those “white” Evangelicals.
I say sadly because it won’t dawn on this writer (and most of Hollywood) WHY those evil Evangelicals feel the way they do.
