No news is bad news for these movies: ‘Tarzan,’ ‘Tron 3’ and ‘Deadpool’
Movie news does come in waves and some projects do suffer the woes of ballooning budget projections and trends at the box office. The biggest film tabled at the moment is probably Tarzan.
Back in April Warner Bros put the brakes on a Tarzan film noting budget reasons. Big names: Harry Potter director David Yates, True Blood star Alexander Skarsgard and Zero Dark Thirty’s Jessica Chastain can’t seem to get this project movie.
WB reportedly was watching The Lone Ranger very closely and the film’s box office failure may have ended efforts a new Tarzan film. Some sources says the studio may revisit the project in 2014.
Director Joseph Kosinski offered a brief update on Tron 3, but if Disney was truly ready to move forward, then the lack of news at SDCC is sign that fans have even longer to wait.
Kosinski told ET in July the script was being written, will pick up where Tron: Legacy ended, but the announcement or confirmation of details has yet to come.
During the Blu-Ray release event Kosinski just repeated the same lines “we’re working on it, we’re deep into the script, excited about the idea, and want to get it just right.” – Source: Collider.
While FOX seems primed to expand the X-Men universe, moving forward on a X-Force spin-off, a standalone Deadpool film is again on the back burner.
Writer Jeff Wadlow said at SDCC that he’s a “huge Deadpool fan” but offered nothing concrete about an appearance in the new film project.
Even Ryan Reynolds sounds frustrated: “That movie is alive and kicking, and then it’s dead as a doornail. Then it’s alive and kicking and then it’s dead… it’s like the worst relationship I’ve ever had!”
Stay tuned, more news will certainly follow.
