Nick Thurston talks ‘Dawn of the Planet of the Apes’ training, Blue Eyes, motion capture
Actor Nick Thurston was part of the amazing cast that was transformed into primates for Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, the latest chapter in the popular Planet of the Apes franchise. Nick spoke with The Global Dispatch’s Dispatch Radio about the experience in an exclusive new interview.
Nick detailed the training and the painful, yet amazing, experience of being transformed into Blue Eyes, Caesar’s oldest son. Choreographer Terry Notary gave an incredible inside look in the video below and Nick says his shoulder’s paid the price.
Director Matt Reeves and Andy Serkis have received a ton of credit for Dawn and Nick adds some of his own from an actor’s perspective.
Nick would not confirm he’s signed up for the third film in the rebooted franchise, but it’s a no brainer to expect him back as Blue Eyes.
Brandon and Nick then discuss the film White Irish Drinkers, Nick’s role and watching the film for the first time with his grandmother. The uncomfortable moment where Nick races through a cemetery naked is only made more entertaining by the actor’s commentary.
He also gives some advice for fighting, or not fighting Stephen Lang of Terra Nova, Avatar fame.
Nick is Sierra Club member and talks about his love the environment, being an active climber and how important awareness is now and moving ahead.
