New York woman beheaded, linked murder suicide case involving man killed by train
Police in New York say that the woman whose headless body was discovered in Farmingdale Tuesday night may have been killed by her own son, who committed suicide by jumping in front of a train.
UPDATE: The woman and her son have both been identified by police – details HERE
Authorities said that the body of a woman, in her 60s, was found on the street just 20 minutes before a man in his 30s jumped into the path on an oncoming Long Island Rail Road train Tuesday night. An unnamed police source told the New York Daily News that the victims are believed to be mother and son.
The shocked community thought this was a Halloween prank at first.
The body of the female victim, wearing only a bra and pants, was lying on one side of the street and her head was on the other, said witness Jack Imperial to the NY Daily News.
“The body’s feet were at the curb, the shoulders were at the middle of the street. The head was across the street,” said Imperial. “I’ve seen some gruesome stuff in my years of living … but nothing like this. I didn’t expect to see something like this, especially not out here.”
One neighbor, Nick Gordon, told the New York Post: ‘I saw the lady laying right in front and her head was across the street, close to the corner. I thought ”holy s***!”’
He added that there was blood smeared down the stairs of the apartment block as if someone had dragged a body.
Police in Nassau County confirmed the potential suicide on the LIRR tracks, but did not confirm that the death is connected to the beheading.
Law enforcement sources reportedly told NBC New York that police are investigating the incident as a murder-suicide. The sources confirmed a woman in her 60s was found with her head severed outside a Farmingdale apartment.
Officials reportedly believe the man found dead on the LIRR tracks could be the deceased woman’s son.
LIRR also confirmed on Twitter that an “unauthorized person” was struck by a train, delaying the Ronkonkoma line.
