New York: Suffolk County murder suicide victim identified as Lodimira DosSantos, killed by Jose DosSantos
Officials in the Suffolk County District Attorney’s office said Wednesday the investigation into the Nov. 19 double shooting revealed that Jose M. DosSantos shot and killed his “former intimate partner,” Lodimira DosSantos.
Police detailed the attack by Jose DosSantos, 32, who went to the apartment at 60 Bickford Street in Jamaica Plain with a knife and a handgun,threatening to kill Lodimira DosSantos, 23, and himself.
“Domestic violence is about power and domination,” Suffolk County District Attorney John P. Pappas said in the statement. “Lodimira’s murder was committed by a man who could not or would not relinquish control over her, even in the very place she should have been safest – her own home.”
Jose DosSantos also stabbed a 33-year-old man who attempted to intervene. His injuries have been described as non-life-threatening.
After police arrived after 5:45 p.m. and found Lodimira DosSantos , who was then rushed to the hospital, where she died. Jose DosSantos was pronounced dead at the scene.
“Domestic violence can take many forms,” Pappas said. “It occurs in relationships of all types, across every demographic. If you or a loved one see the red flags of verbal abuse, controlling behavior, or physical violence, please don’t hesitate to reach out for help.”
Records show Jose DosSantos had an active license to carry a firearm issued in Randolph, prosecutors said.
Lodimira DosSantos’ family posted an obituary online, describing the young woman as a “loving mother” and “beloved daughter.”
