New York nights for Nerds

Whether you live there or are just visiting, you want your time in New York City to be the best that it can possibly be. The only way to do that is to tailor your experiences to your interests, and for those with a nerdy or geeky obsession, then your luck is in. There is no end to the options available if you want to embrace your inner nerd and revel in the best that NYC has to offer. So if you’re wondering if the greatest city in the world has something for you, then here are the top three things you can do whilst avoiding those jam-packed popular attractions that everyone rushes to tick off their ‘normal’ lists.

The museum for comic geeks

The superhero genre has never been bigger, and with billion-dollar blockbusters based on comics becoming a mainstream area of interest, you might think that New York may not be the best place to check out comic-related activities. You couldn’t be more wrong! NYC is home to the Museum of Comic and Cartoon Art at the Society of Illustrators in the Upper East Side, and with their constant calendar of new exhibitions, you’re bound to find something appeals to your love of sequential art. Set aside a few hours and take your time exploring, and you can be sure to come away from the museum with an even greater appreciation of comics and the creators who love them.

Don’t be a Muggle

There’s simply no disputing the impact of the Harry Potter universe. From social commentary to strong female role models, all with a healthy dose of magic and mystery, JK Rowling has created a world that is loved and obsessed over by millions of fans around the world. If you’re a regular user of Pottermore and you have your own wand on display in your living room, then take the time to check out Harry Potter and the Cursed Child while you’re in NYC. If you’re looking for that Hogwarts feel to your New York adventure, then Broadway is simply the best option.

Embrace the horror

If you’re looking for somewhere to enjoy a nightcap but the very idea of a sports bar brings you out in a sweat, then perhaps Lovecraft might be the best option for you. An entire bar dedicated to the life and work of the ground-breaking writer H.P. Lovecraft, you can indulge your taste buds with themed food and drinks that cover the sci-fi and horror genres that Lovecraft is famous for. So if you fancy a little tipple before bed, then you can choose from their tasty cocktails that can include a refreshing dash of absinthe, with The Gla’aki being a popular choice, although you can’t go wrong with a little sip of The Darkest of Storms!

No matter what your nerdy interests may be, you certainly won’t be lacking when it comes to finding cool things to satisfy your nerd needs. New York City is famous for many things, and it’s fast becoming one of the geek epicenters, so if you love all things geek, then avoid the standard sights and head off to somewhere that suits you much more.
