New York billboard becomes latest battleground between atheists group and evangelicals
Atheist activists, the Freedom from Religion Foundation, responded to an evangelical billboard in New York City’s Time Square which states: “OMG, there is no god!”
The previous ad purchased by Answers in Genesis’ (AiG) anti-secular “Thank God you’re wrong” displayed Monday in a new digital signage. This sparked a mini-Holy War every two minutes between 42nd Street and 8th Avenue.
Julia Sweeney, an actress famous for appearing in Saturday Night Live, appears next to the anti-God message.
FFRF Co-President Annie Laurie Gaylor made her organization’s stance on theology perfectly clear.
“A fifth of the U.S. population identifies as nonbelievers. We don’t thank a nonexistent god, we put faith in each other and human ingenuity,” she said in a news release. “We believe in deeds, not creeds. We believe the only afterlife that ought to concern us is leaving our descendants a secure and pleasant future.”
The group says the billboard is a “light-hearted” response to the AiG message, who bought three billboards in San Francisco and six or seven in the Los Angeles area.
