New York: Anya Johnston arrested for Susan Trott murder
New York Police arrested the neighbor of an advertising executive who was found dead with her throat slashed in her Upper West Side last week, identifying the woman as Anya Johnston.
Johnston, 24, was charged with murdering Susan Trott, 70, inside her apartment on West End Avenue near 95th Street on October 21.
“I’m pleased to announce an arrest has been made in the murder of Susan Trott,” NYPD Chief of Detectives Dermot Shea wrote on Twitter Wednesday afternoon.
Police explained that Johnston has a history of mental problems and was previously committed to hospitals in 2014 and 2016 for her erratic behavior.
“She’s an EDP. That’s the motive,” one source said, referring to the police acronym for an emotionally disturbed person. “She was crazy talking about harming herself and harming other people,” another source added.
Trott’s business partner called police after not hearing from the woman for a few days. Officers found a trail of blood on Trott’s floor to the bedroom, where they found her body.
Police believe Trott and Johnston had problems with each other previously, but it’s unclear what those fights were about, police sources told The Post. Johnston allegedly burglarized Trott’s apartment and a confrontation ultimately ended with Trott’s death.
