New Tampa Players to present ‘Something’s Afoot’ to raise funds for University Area Community Development Corporation

New Tampa Players will present the crazy murder mystery musical Something’s Afoot at the University Area Community Development Corporation (UACDC) Community Center at 14013 N. 22nd St., Tampa, 33613, April 6-17.

somethings afoot logoAll proceeds from the Wednesday, April 6 performance at 8 p.m. will benefit University Area CDC. Tickets to this special performance will be sold at the door on a “pay what you can” basis. “The fact that people can pay as little or as much as they choose really serves both to make this accessible to our community and also provides a simple and tangible way for people to support our mission financially in a way that fits their budget,” said Wendy Leigh, UACDC chief development and marketing officer.

Directed by James Cass and Frank Stinehour, with musical direction by Jared Porter and choreography by Jarrett Koski,Something’s Afoot features Miss Tweed – the amateur sleuth – as she attempts to solve the murder of Lord Dudley Rancour. Set in an English manor in a raging thunderstorm, the guests disappear one by one. As the 10 stranded survivors attempt to gather clues to identify the perpetrator, they find themselves in precarious and somewhat hilarious situations, making them realize that Something’s Afoot.

The Something’s Afoot book, music, and lyrics were written by James McDonald, David Vos, and Robert Gerlach, with additional music by Ed Linderman.

“We are so appreciative of our partnership with the New Tampa Players. Something’s Afoot will be a delightful show for our community, and we are grateful to receive funds for our wonderful programs,” said Sarah Combs, CEO for UACDC.

UACDC offers support for thousands of Tampa residents through youth programs, adult education and resource assistance. Its primary mission is the redevelopment and sustainability of the at-risk areas surrounding University of South Florida’s Tampa campus. For more information about UACDC, a 501(c)(3) public/private partnership, visit www.uacdc.org or call  813.558.5212.
