New Study: 25% children under 12 viewed internet porn, 7% before age 10

In a recent study, researchers found that 25 percents of children under the age of 12 have viewed internet pornography.

The survey of over 1,000 individuals was conducted for a BBC3 documentary that will air April 10.

Dr Miranda Horvath and Dr Madeleine Coy, two of the UK’s experts on sex and pornography, were involved in the analysis of the survey.

They reported a clear “gender difference” between the way boys and girls experience online porn.

One in five of the young women questioned said they had never seen internet pornography, but only 4% of young men said the same.

More than one-third of young people reported they had first seen online pornography by accident, either through searching for something else, a misleading link, or on social media.

The survey questioned 1,000 young people ages 16 to 21 and the following statistics were gleaned from the results:

  • 20 percent of survey-takers first looked for porn online on purpose

  • 37.6 percent found porn online accidentally

  • 1 in 4 survey-takers were showed explicit content by another person

  • 7 percent first saw pornography before 10 years of age

The documentary titled “Porn-What’s the Harm?” will explore issues that pornography introduce including objectification, body image and wrongful perceptions of what real-life sex is actually like.

In recent years, pornographic magazines sales have dropped drastically; Nuts magazine was forced to shut down entirely.

While this may be the case, pornorgraphy has not lost interest, it is just easier to obtain for free online.
