New reports indicate Nancy Lanza was not a teacher at Sandy Hook

Despite earlier reports that Nancy Lanza, mother of shooter Adam Lanza, was a teacher at Sandy Hook Elementary School, new details are emerging that suggest otherwise. CNNThe Wall Street Journal, and several other news outlets are reporting now that Nancy Lanza may not have had any connection to the school where the shootings took place.

Janet Vollmer, a kindergarten teacher at Sandy Hook Elementary, told CNN that Lanza was not a teacher there.

“No one has heard of her,” Lillian Bittman, a former school board official, told the Journal. “Teachers don’t know her.” “Relatives” told ABC News she may have volunteered there, but she wasn’t a teacher. A parent told the Associated Press Lanza was a substitute, but they couldn’t verify that with any records at the school. The Stanford Advocate reported the same thing.

20 of the 26 victims are children with two of the six adults killed were Dawn Hochsprung, the school’s beloved principal, and school psychologist Mary Sherlach.

Lanza committed suicide after killing his mother Nancy in her Newtown home. There was a ton of confusing and contradicting reports from the investigation.

Residents have gathered to remember the woman who they describe as classy.

“She was wonderful, beautiful, classy… everyone knew her,” says waitress Laurie Champagne.

Nancy Lanza reportedly was a regular patron at the My Place pizza joint where Champagne works.

Proprietor Louise Tambascio seconded reports of Nancy being a teacher at Sandy Hook were wrong. But Nancy was involved with the gun community, she says, belonging to a club and taking her sons shooting.

Tambascio says. She’s known Nancy for twelve years, and remembers hiring Adam Lanza’s older brother Ryan as a busboy a couple years back. When initial reports came out that he was the shooter, she says, she knew they had the wrong brother.

I find it disgusting that “popular media” and the tabloids are tearing apart Nancy Lanza as having contributed to her son’s issues and choices. She was a good mother who did her best, alone most of the time, dealing with a person who clearly had more issues than Asperger’s. To come down on her for having taught her kids to shoot a gun is rediculous – that is not why he killed. She was going to have him comitted and he wasn’t having it….this poor woman spent her life dedicated to living mostly behind doors to deal with this kid. She did the best she could! People want to blame in order to “heal” and the truth is that blame and answers don’t bring back those beautiful children and adults…which include Nancy. What mother would “raise” a “killer” let alone have their own head blown off by their offspring. Every murderer, rapist and sadist was or is someone’s son. Stop blaming the poor woman and pray for her family that is suffering as well.
