New ‘Poltergeist’ film moves to summer 2015, may still get 3-D treatment
The new Poltergeist film doesn’t sound like a remake or a sequel, but possibly a franchise reboot with Sam Raimi producing. Now Fox has announced that the horror film will be moved back on the schedule to summer of 2015, a good sign.
Horror films are finding success during the summer (The Conjuring, The Purge films) and February is known to be a “dumping ground” for subpar projects.
Starring Sam Rockwell, Rosemarie DeWitt, Jane Adams, Saxon Sharbino and Jared Harris, Poltergeist sounds like it picks up years after the original films while the premise is the same.
Rockwell ( Iron Man 2) will play Eric Bowen, whose daughter Madison is kidnapped by supernatural and stuck in limbo between life and death forces.
From an early report: “In a scene in the new movie , children find some objects in the attic . Yes , you guessed it – they are some of the belongings of the first family film , intentionally left behind . There are bed sheets (Star Wars from Robbie’s room) , a television in black and white (of course ! ) And some Christmas decorations,” Brazil’s cinepop’s article summarizes.
Duirng that time, Harris confirmed the film will get a 3-D adaptation as well., which may prove the studio has confidence in the film. Now the move from the original February 13, 2015 release date to come out on July 24, 2015 seems to prove that out.
Poltergeist is directed by Gil Kenan (Monster House, City of Ember) and also stars Kennedi Clements as Madison, the daughter “abducted” by the supernatural beings.
Full Synopsis:
Legendary filmmaker Sam Raimi and director Gil Kenan reimagine and contemporize the classic tale about a family whose suburban home is invaded by angry spirits. When the terrifying apparitions escalate their attacks and take the youngest daughter, the family must come together to rescue her.
Here we goooo! Another dam reboot! We are sick of reboots!
