New poll: Lucas Overby, David Jolly race tightening for Florida House seat
A new poll shows Republican David Jolly ahead of his only contender, Libertarian Lucas Overby, at 17%, with nearly one in four voters undecided in the race for Florida’s District 13 Congressional seat.
The StPetePolls.org survey indicates that Jolly holds the lead at 47.8% with Overby now at 30.8%. The “undecided” total rests at 21.8% from the 1121 polled.
Tampa Bay Times noted in their coverage that Overby will court Democrats who no longer have a candidate in the race. “…won’t it be interesting to watch the mating dance between Overby and Democrats in the coming months?” illustrating some of the issues where Overby would appeal to Dems: “Overby may not support the raising of the minimum wage, but he is prochoice, supports LGBT issues and favors the federal legalization of medical marijuana.”
Meanwhile the StPetesBlog broke down how the Democrats have already divided themselves with Overby getting 43% and only 27% supporting Jolly.
“David Jolly receives substantial GOP support, with 71 percent of Republicans supporting the incumbent and only 17 percent for Overby; 12 percent are unsure,” they write.
“Independents are also leaning towards the Republican, giving the newly elected House member almost 41 percent, but one-third (33 percent) are going for Overby, with 26 percent remain unsure.”
Jolly beat Democrat Alex Sink and Overby in the March special election.
The margin of error was noted to be 2.9%
