New ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ teased by Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow at D23 Expo
Jack Sparrow invaded D23 Expo 2015 Saturday as Johnny Depp appeared as the notorious pirates to promote Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. It was confirmed for fans that Orlando Bloom will indeed return for the fifth film in the franchise.
Depp returns as Sparrow with new directors Joachim Ronning and Espen Sandberg, offering a ton of fun for the audience.
Walt Disney Pictures’ president of production Sean Bailey was onstage as Depp’s Sparrow staggered out, asking where he was — “Disneyland,” Bailey answered.
“Never heard of it,” Sparrow said before throwing grapes into the audience. “Grape! Grape! It bounced, don’t pick it up. I hate grapes. I despise the rotten little things.”
“I came to sing you a song!” Depp’s Sparrow announced, prompting Bailey to usher Depp offstage:. “I didn’t want to sing you a song anyway!”
Bloom’s return was discussed during the panel, confirming his remarks while promoting the final Hobbit film.
“Basically they want to reboot the whole franchise, I think, and do something with me and the relationship with my son,” told IGN in December.
He also teased that he might not look like himself. “I’m of course Davy Jones now, so I’m down the bottom of the ocean,” he added. “It might be kind of fun to do something where I’m rumbling round the bottom of the ocean, because I won’t look anything like me.”
At the end of Pirates of the Caribbean: At the World’s End, Bloom’s Will Turner was forced to captain the Flying Dutchman and stay off land for 10 years.
The story centers on Capt. Salazar (Javier Bardem), who decides to kill every pirate, Jack decides to go after “the legendary Trident of Poseidon, a powerful artifact that bestows upon its possessor total control over the seas,” so queue the adventure music.
Dead Men Tell No Tales also stars Geoffrey Rush, Kaya Scodelario and Brenton Thwaites.
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales will arrive in theaters on July 7, 2017.
