New photos from ‘Powers’ TV series focus on cast: Sharlto Copley, Susan Heyward

USA Today debuted the first look at the TVadaptation of Brian Michael Bendis’ comic series Powers, starring Sharlto Copley (District 9) as Christian Walker, and Susan Heyward (The Following) as Deena Pilgrim. Now Sony dropped a few more pics (Via Coming Soon) to promo the upcoming show.

Powers number 1 comic book cover Image comicsBrian Michael Bendis will executive produce the show, with David Slade directing the first two episodes. Powers is currently in its fourth week of filming in Atlanta, and no air-date has been set for its 10-episode first season. It will première on the Sony PlayStation Network, and also stars Michelle Forbes, Eddie Izzard, and Noah Taylor.

Bendis says Copley and Heyward’s characters are “the heart and the soul” of Powers, yet he promises a “different experience” than the comic. “My dream was for the show and the books to almost run in parallel universes as they explore the same themes.”

To clarify for fans, Bendis notes that Christian on the page is much more stoic than the up-tempo character that Copley plays.

The first footage from Powers will debut during New York Comic Con with a panel comprised of Heyward, Taylor, Olesya Rulin, Logan Browning and Izzard. Bendis will also be in attendance and  the footage will air for the fans.

“Powers,” an edgy dramatic series from Sony Pictures Television and inspired by the graphic novel series of the same name, follows the lives of two homicide detectives, Christian Walker (Copley) and Deena Pilgrim (Heyward), who are assigned to investigate cases involving people with extraordinary abilities, referred to as “Powers.” Set amidst today’s paparazzi culture, Powers asks the questions, what if the world was full of superheroes who aren’t actually heroic at all? What if all that power was just one more excuse for mischief, mayhem, murder, and endorsement deals? Enter the men and women of the Powers Division, the only people brave enough to go up against the overpaid, commercialized, superhumans who glide through the sky imposing their power over the crowds below who both worship and fear them.
