New ‘Mary Poppins Returns’ trailer showcases the Magic, Emily Blunt

Disney’s Mary Poppins Returns, a new film starring Emily Blunt as the whimsical nanny arrives this Christmas and the Mouse House teased the film in a new trailer.

Set some 25-odd years after the first film, Mary Poppins Returns brings us back to Cherry Tree Lane, where a grown-up Michael (Ben Whishaw), his three children, and his sister Jane (Emily Mortimer) mourn the death of a family member. Blunt’s Poppins appears with her trusty umbrella to remind the family how to embrace life once again — and how to dance.

Check out the new trailer at the bottom.

The 1964 Mary Poppins is a classic with the amazing Julie Andrews in the titular role. Now director Rob Marshall takes on the task of remaking the brand for a whole new generation.

Colin Firth will play a heartless bank manager named Mr. Wilkins with stars Julie Walters, Meryl Streep and Angela Lansbury. There is a new generation of Banks kids, John (Nathanael Saleh), Annabel (Pixie Davies), and Georgie (Joel Dawson) and a new chimney sweep: Jack (Lin-Manuel Miranda).

Dick Van Dyke will also be appearing in a minor role. Marshall (Into the Woods, Chicago) directs from the script by Finding Neverland writer David Magee.

Miranda spoke about having the scene with Van Dyke, saying it was a “joyous two days” adding “I aspire to having that much energy in my life, someday, much less at 91.”

Songs in the new movie include “Trip a Little Light Fantastic”, “Turning Turtle”, “Can You Imagine That”, “The Place Where Lost Things Go”, “Nowhere to Go but Up”, “Under the Lovely London Son”, “The Roual Doulton Music Hall”, and “A Cover Is Not the Book”.

On Marshall, Blunt said Marshall makes you feel like you can do anything, but also he “expects a lot of you and that comes from singing, the acting, the dancing, because he doesn’t miss anything.”

Mary Poppins Returns is set for a December 25, 2018 release date.
