New ‘Man of Steel’ trailer sets up new photo on 75th birthday of Superman

Superman’s 75th birthday Thursday brought a new photo, a day after the new trailer for the Superman reboot, Man of Steel.

The new image o  Henry Cavill (Immortals) shows off the new super-suit from head to toe which is closer to the more modern comic book styles, notably the lack of red trunks.

Fans are getting really excited about the emblem on the suit, which isn’t really an “S” but rather, the Kryptonian symbol passed on from his family’s legacy.

As Collider described, the trailer follows Clark Kent passing through childhood, adolescence and adulthood, all while the expectations of his fathers are heaped upon his broad shoulders. It’s not all existential as we get the first real hint of action sequences in the film, along with scenes of the menacing Michael Shannon and the tenacious Amy Adams. (Watch trailer below)

Also starring Amy Adams, Kevin Costner, Diane Lane, Michael Shannon, Laurence Fishburne and Russell Crowe.

Man of Steel opens June 14th.

Here’s the official synopsis for Man of Steel:

In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time. Clark Kent/Kal-El (Cavill) is a young twentysomething journalist who feels alienated by powers beyond anyone’s imagination. Transported to Earth years ago from Krypton, an advanced alien planet, Clark struggles with the ultimate question – Why am I here? Shaped by the values of his adoptive parents Martha (Lane) and Jonathan Kent (Costner), Clark soon discovers that having super abilities means making very difficult decisions. But when the world needs stability the most, it comes under attack. Will his abilities be used to maintain peace or ultimately used to divide and conquer? Clark must become the hero known as “Superman,” not only to shine as the world’s last beacon of hope but to protect the ones he loves.
