New ‘Mad Max Fury Road’ pics feature Tom Hardy, Nicholas Hoult
A new poster and a new trailer just days later have Mad Max fans excited. Director George Miller and team now release a pair of new photos featuring Tom Hardy in Mad Max: Fury Road.
Tom Hardy takes over as the lead in “Mad Max: Fury Road”
Hardy is taking aim in the first photo and carrying a limp Nuk, played by Nicholas Hoult, and a shotgun in the other.
Miller talked with USA Today in an Aug. 1 article about casting Hardy to replace Mel Gibson as Max Rockatansky. “Tom was the first guy who walked through the door and had that same paradoxical quality of being immediately attractive and you want to be his friend, but at the same time he had that dimension of danger — there was an unpredictability in what they do,” Miller explained.
“In term of performances, it’s like two different singers singing the same song. They’re going to each interpret it their way.”
Fans are extremely excited after seeing the new trailer for the film set 45 years from now. Max is “embroiled in the high-stakes four-wheeled drama of Imperator Furiosa (Charlize Theron) racing to keep a group of women out of the clutches of the masked warlord Immortan Joe (Hugh Keays-Byrne, aka Toecutter in the original Mad Max), the War Boys — including the bald-headed Nux (Hoult) — and a fleet of souped-up, weaponized old hot rods.”
Things go very end-of-the-world when “all the bad things we hear in the news all happen at once, and we end up with a wasteland in the middle of a continent like Australia,” says Miller, director, producer and co-writer of the upcoming film. “People migrate there and basically survive in a very medieval construct. There’s no rule of law, no honor, no money — just pure surviving by bartering or killing.”
Fury Road also stars Zoe Kravitz, Riley Keough, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Nathan Jones.
Mad Max: Fury Road opens May 15, 2015.
