New Jersey teen, Scott Kologi, murders family on New Year’s Eve: Steve Kologi, Linda Kologi, Brittany Kologi, Mary Schultz all dead
Just ahead of New Year’s Eve, a 16-year-old boy used a rifle to shoot and kill his parents, sister and a family friend inside the parents’ home in a coastal city in southern New Jersey.
The Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher Gramiccioni detailed the case for the press, confirming that the teen is in police custody and identified his victims as his father, Steven Kologi, 44; mother, Linda Kologi, 42; sister, Brittany Kologi, 18; and a family friend, Mary Schultz, 70, who was residing at the Kologi home in Long Branch, New Jersey.
Scott Kologi has been identified as autistic as the older brother, arrested on scene without incident. Scott Kologi was charged as a juvenile with four counts of first-degree murder and one count of possession of a firearm for an unlawful purpose. He is expected to make an initial appearance in court on Tuesday.
Scott Kologi Jr. escaped injury from the shooting and posted on Instragram that he had “the greatest parents I could ask for.”
“Never once was I without a hot meal or a roof over my head,” he wrote in a statement that was reposted by a Facebook user.
“They made sure Christmas came every year although they struggled financially. I cannot even describe the type of people they were so just believe me when I say how great they were.”
The boy’s grandfather also apparently escaped harm as Gramiccioni said “thankfully left the home and came out OK.”
“As for my sister she was so beautiful and smart,” Steven Jr. wrote. “I just wish I could tell all of them how much they meant to me and how much I truly loved each and every one of them because I didn’t do that enough.”
He ended by wishing everyone “good luck” in the New Year.
“And please please please remember to give the ones you love an extra kiss or I love you,” Steven Jr. said.
A joint investigation by the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office and Long Branch Police Department continues.
