New Jersey: Byron Stevenson, Victor Sanders arrested for murder of Marc Eason
Paterson police arrested two men in connection to the murder of Marc Eason, a man released from prison just weeks ago. The gang related case is the 13th homicide victim in Paterson and another incident of “black-on-black” gun violence.
Byron Stevenson was released from jail a day after Eason on September 24 and the 24-year-old man is now being charged with the shooting murder. Eason, 21, was found dead on October 6, shot multiple times.
Paterson police Capt. Heriberto Rodriguez declined to say what police believe was the motive in the killing. He also would not say whether the victim and his alleged killer knew each other or had come into contact while the two men were incarcerated.
A second suspect, Victor Sanders, 44, was also arrested and charged with conspiracy to commit murder in the case, police said.
Sanders was apprehended on Tuesday, police said. Both he and Stevenson were captured “in the vicinity” of where Eason was shot multiple times, police said. Authorities confirmed their arrests on Thursday night.
The area of 12th Avenue and East 22nd Street has been described by the FBI as controlled by the Bloods street gang.
Eason was jailed for a 2012 shooting case in the same area, which left a man paralyzed in one leg. State corrections records show that Eason was convicted of aggravated assault for causing serious bodily injury and unlawful possession of a weapon in connection with the 2012 shooting. After completing his jail term, Eason was released from the jail on Sept. 23, the records show.
Stevenson is being held on $1 million bail, according to the Passaic County Sheriff’s Office. Bail information was not available for Sanders.
