New International trailer for ‘Prometheus,’ Idris Elba says it’s ‘amazing’
An international trailer for Ridley Scott‘s Prometheus landed this week and Idris Elba talked about the film while promoting the new Ghost Rider film.
“There’s a ship and I fly it. That’s it! It doesn’t get any more interesting than that,” Elba teased MTV of his character, the captain of the ship at the heart of the film.
“Ridley allowed us to live in his idea, his dream of what this film is about. Aliens aside, Ridley again creates a new character, a series of characters that are in a crazy predicament,” Elba said. “It captures all the great DNA stuff of Aliens, that’s all in this film as well. But it’s a different film altogether.”
“I just saw some of it literally last week. It looks amazing. It looks amazing!” he said.
To Dredd Central He said: ‘It’s incredibly visually stunning. Ridley Scott is a genius.
‘We’re really mindful of the audience knowing too much before they get there because it’ll spoil it, but it’s a very exciting film. Fans of Ridley and his legacy will be very proud of it.’
In another interview with Huffington Post, Elba explained that the movie depended on the secrecy surrounding it.
He said: ‘This particular film – Twentieth Century Fox and Ridley Scott have been very, very diligent about keeping a lid on it. But, I know exactly why – because the film depends on that. It needs that. It needs you to not know.
‘See, if you told me, even though people think they want to know, they don’t really want to know.’
Elba added: ‘Because it’s a shocker, isn’t it? It’s a shocker and the anticipation of a great filmmaker like Ridley Scott is part of the draw.
‘Like, what is he going to do next? What’s that about? And the more he cloaks it in, “There’s something I can’t tell you yet,” it makes it more intriguing.
‘And anyone that has that shortcut, “Well, I heard it was this,” it’s cheating.’
Damon Lindelof and Jon Spaihts wrote Prometheus; it stars Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron, Idris Elba, Sean Harris, Kate Dickie, Rafe Spall, Logan Marshall-Green, Guy Pearce, and Patrick Wilson. The film will hit theaters June 8, 2012.
Ridley Scott, director of “Alien” and “Blade Runner,” returns to the genre he helped define. With PROMETHEUS, he creates a groundbreaking mythology, in which a team of explorers discover a clue to the origins of mankind on Earth, leading them on a thrilling journey to the darkest corners of the universe. There, they must fight a terrifying battle to save the future of the human race.
