New ‘Exodus: Gods and Kings’ trailer showcases action, Christian Bale
A brand new trailer has landed online for Exodus: Gods And Kings, which Christian Bale stars as Moses opposite Joel Edgerton as Ramses. Director Ridley Scott has riled Christians and non-Christians before the film even arrives in theaters.
The Biblical characters come alive in a story which follows the two childhood “brothers” who become enemies as Moses leads the Jews out of Egypt, rebelling against Ramses’ oppressive regime.
This latest trailer presents the epic, as the Gladiator director shows off his skills to portray sword fighting, a ton of action in the period piece. Check out the full trailer below.
Critics have been vocal about the cast of Caucasian actors who are then underneath layers of makeup to pull off the Egyptian appearance. The studio seems driven to present a massive epic to capitalize on the strong turnout for faith-based films in 2014.
Christians; however, are very skeptical of the film since Scott as been a vocal atheist who wants to focus on the Moses-Ramses relationship, not the Biblical tale.
“What’s interesting to me about Moses isn’t the big stuff that everybody knows. It’s things like his relationship with Ramses [II, the pharaoh]. I honestly wasn’t paying attention in school when I was told the story of Moses. Some of the details of his life are extraordinary,” Scott said in 2012 to Esquire magazine during the lead-up to production.
“I’m really intrigued by those eternal questions of creation and belief and faith. I don’t care who you are, it’s what we all think about. It’s in the back of all our minds,” the director of Prometheus, a film which replaced God with “Engineers” as the creators of life.
“I do despair. That’s a heavy word, but picking up a newspaper every day, how can you not despair at what’s happening in the world, and how we’re represented as human beings? The disappointments and corruption are dismaying at every level. And the biggest source of evil is of course religion,” Scott said.
This statement was shocking and the interviewer asked for clarification, saying “All religions?”
“Can you think of a good one? A just and kind and tolerant religion?”
Directed by Scott and co-starring Ben Kingsley, Aaron Paul and Sigourney Weaver, Exodus: Gods And Kings will open in theaters on December 12, 2014.
