New ‘Daredevil’ trailers, TV spots offer new footage, details and costume info
Marvel and Netflix have released a couple of new trailers for their upcoming TV adaptation of Marvel’s The Man Without Fear, Daredevil, featuring plenty of new footage and our first look at Man Of Steel‘s Ayelet Zurer as the Kingpin’s wife, Vanessa.
Marvel’s Daredevil is a live action series that follows the journey of attorney Matt Murdock, who in a tragic accident was blinded as a boy but empowered with extraordinary senses. Murdock sets up practice in his old neighborhood of Hell’s Kitchen, New York where he now fights against injustice as a respected lawyer by day and masked vigilante at night.
“It’s a new collaboration between Marvel and Netflix. And Daredevil is one of the most beloved superheroes. He’s blind, which is interesting – his disability is his strength,” Cox tells David Letterman about the show.
“As a 9-year-old boy, he was blinded in a road accident where he was saving an old man crossing the street. There was a chemical spillage that went into his eyes and the byproduct of that accident is that his senses were heightened to such a degree that he can operate better than a seeing-person. ”
The official Twitter account debuted 2 brand new TV spots, giving us another look at Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) in action as well as glimpses of the Kingpin (Vincent D’Onofrio). Check out these as well.
In the early footage, Matt wears the black, ninja-style costume. Daredevil artist Joe Quesada says that the change to the red and yellow or full red uniform will come.
“We had to come up with a logic for it. It was a delicate balance, because the stories we’re telling are so real-world. Matt starts out in a homemade outfit that develops slowly. As he starts getting the crap kicked out of him on the streets, he adds padding little by little.”
Showrunner Steven DeKnight promises that we will see the red suit, but it will take some time: “He always wore a black mask that was tied in the back. We went through a lot of different versions and did a lot of R&D before settling on something. If you watch very closely, you’ll see the outfit evolve subtly into what we call the black ninja suit. The mask changes. He starts wearing protective pads. Eventually it morphs into the classic suit, because he wouldn’t be Daredevil without it. Getting there is part of the fun. The idea was to back the story up to the point before Matt is Daredevil. Then we could take him to a place where some version of the red suit works in a grounded world. The solution is very exciting and makes complete sense.”
Daredevil stars Rosario Dawson, Elden Henson, Deborah Ann Woll and Scott Glenn.
