Freddie Highmore Norman Bates Vera Farmiga photoThe Psycho contemporary prequel gives viewers an intimate portrayal of how Norman Bates’ (Freddie Highmore) psyche unravels through his teenage years.

Fans discover the dark, twisted backstory of Norman Bates and how deeply intricate his relationship with his mother, Norma (Emmy-nominated Vera Farmiga), truly is.

”The sort of thematic of the second season is, ‘Who am I?’ For Norma, ‘Am I entitled to the life I’ve always dreamed of having?’ For Norman it’s, ‘Who am I?’ as he becomes more aware of the darkness inside him,” says creator Carlton Cruse to Entertainment Weekly.

Michael Vartan will be joining the cast as George, a new love interest for Norma as charming divorcé who catches the attention of Norma.

Other new cast members include: Kathleen Robertson, Michael O’Neill, Rebecca Creskoff, Michael Eklund, Kenny Johnson and Paloma Kwiatkowski.

Bates Motel returns in March 3, 2014 on A&E.
