Netflix: Obama produced shows won’t have ‘political slant’
Netflix’s chief content officer says the shows that Barack and Michelle Obama have been hired to produce “won’t have a political slant.”
“This is not The Obama Network,” Ted Sarandos told an audience in New York, according to Variety Magazine. “There’s no political slant to the programming.”
When asked what Republicans should think of Netflix’s decision to ink a multi-million dollar, multi-year deal with the Obamas, Sarandos responded, “wait for the programming.”
Variety notes: “He said Netflix’s deal with Higher Ground Productions, the production shingle formed by Barack and Michelle Obama, is for entertainment programming, including scripted films and TV shows as well as unscripted lifestyle content and docu-series.”
Sarandos was quick to note, though, that the “creative community” has a “left lean,” which might serve to excuse any later, objectionable political programming.
Sarandos and his wife were huge donors (approx. $1 million) and his wife was U.S. Ambassador to the Bahamas in Obama’s first term.
