Netflix blames Christmas major outage on Amazon service

Film lovers expecting Netflix to supply them with holiday entertainment were disappoint this Christmas as the website experienced a major outage on Monday.

The outage was cause by Amazon’s Web Services, a cloud-based service. This caused a problem for subscribers throughout the United States and Canada.

Adrian Cockcroft, Netflix’s Cloud Architect, went to Twitter during the crash.

Netflix Amazon logos“Bunch of ELBs down, lots of happy Netflix instances getting no traffic, still waiting for AWS to fix it. Some devices working, others not,” stated Cockcroft.

The company released an apology on its Twitter page stating, “We’re sorry for the Christmas Eve outage. Terrible timing! Engineers are working on it now.”

This is not the first time that Amazon’s cloud system has failed its major clients.

According to Forbes, this is the third time this year that the service has had a large crash. Earlier this year it not only cause Netflix to crash, but also Foursquare, FastCompany, Pinterest, Reddit and more.

There is still no word on when the system will be fully functional again. Netflix says they are still waiting on Amazon.
