Naressa Turner vigil interrupted by another shooting
St Paul police are now responded to another shooting which occurred during a memorial on Monday night for Naressa Turner, a 20-year-old mother who was found murdered this weekend.
Friends and family were gathered in the ally where Naressa Turner was found dead inside of an SUV by a masked gunman.
“Make this be the last death,” said Odessa turner, Naressa’s mother. “Let’s get together for our kids. Let’s save them from these streets.”
Turner’s family asserts that she was harassed on Facebook for allegedly witnessing a murder in the neighborhood. She moved to Atlanta with her young daughter, but during a short visit home she was gunned down.
Nunu, her nickname, will not be forgotten.
“I dropped her off at the truck at her sister’s crib,” says Nunu’s best friend, Alica Sullivan. “I knew something was wrong because she always answers her phone. I’m still waiting for her to answer that phone.”
Neighbors say they heard at least five gun shots.
“When the gun fire comes we kind of go back to our normal routine because it ain’t nothing new around here,” said neighbor Shelly Thompson.
St. Paul Police say they have been called the duplex Turner was parked at 30 times in the past year.
“It’s sad that people keep on losing their lives,” said Janet Boelter about hearing the shots. “I guess police are doing what they can, but it would be nice to get it all out of the neighborhood — to have a safe place for our children to play.”
