My first MegaCon – Sierra Jones

March 26 was the annual MegaCon comic show. It was my first time going and the entire event was amazing. The convention center was huge, feeling like a theme park. There were a ton of people and I almost got swept away in a sea of geeks.

It was nice meeting a lot of celebrities, but there were a lot of people there who I had no idea who they were.

The one thing that I found interesting was all the different costumes. Some were done by hand, some were store bought, but only a few of the costumes were the same.

Some were creepy (Malfatto)…some were adorable: (Shaun as Spidey)…some people dressed up in groups: (Spidey and Avatar groups) and others went solo: (Silver surfer)

Everyone came as their favorite character.

As we were walking around the convention, we found two guys that we had to stop and photograph. They had on a crazy costume that confused us, wearing McDonald’s bags on their heads.

We asked them why and the their response was: “We wanted a costume, but didn’t have one. We were eating at McDonald’s and thought ‘why not’.”

Why not?

I never really understood why people dress up like this. It is hot, uncomfortable and could cost a lot of money (well except for the McDonald’s guys), but it is something some people like to do so, hey, let ‘em.

I enjoyed seeing all the different costumes, I just wouldn’t do it.

There was this one guy, dyed himself blue. Blue! From head to toe and to make matters worse is he wasn’t wearing a shirt.

Comic shows need a shirt, shoes and definitely PANTS rule. (Some just needed longer pants in my opinion).

My sister loves Wonder Woman so we were on the lookout for a good photo and thought we found one. Then he spoke.

Writing down the name “glambot” we held back our laughs and later joked “He made a great Wonder Woman!”

Sadly, this is true.

Even the people that worked there were dressed up sometimes. One guy had on a kilt – it was odd. Just a kilt and a shirt, not really a costume at all now that I think about it.

Herbert Jefferson Jr. (Boomer from ‘Battlestar Galactica -BBJ) was awesome! He was a very pleasant man. I found out the guy who used to play Hercules is a Christian and got to meet Billy Graham (a really famous, rich Christian pastor).

It was  a lot of fun and I’d definitely do it again.
