Murder suspects Gary Crockett, Nickie Circelli jump to their death from the George Washington Bridge
The man and woman who jumped to their deaths from the George Washington Bridge on Monday, reportedly holding hands as they fell, appear to have been linked to a recent murder as new details emerged Wednesday.
The bodies of Gary Crockett, 41, and Nickie Circelli, 40, both of Suffern, N.Y., were identified Tuesday, and investigators believe they killed Circelli’s uncle before they jumped from the Hudson River a law enforcement source told the press on Wednesday.
“Their death is linked to a suspicious death in the Village of Suffern,” the source said. The pair, both of whom have criminal records, took money from Circelli’s uncle’s back account, the source said.
Police now believe that the fear the uncle would go to police motivated them to murder the man, via asphyxiation in his apartment.
In the NY Daily News article on Wednesday, a neighbor said “Circelli’s uncle was found dead on Monday afternoon by his business partner; they ran a catering business. Two other neighbors, who declined to provide their names, said the uncle had allowed the couple to stay at his apartment without paying rent.”
While investigators examined the crime scene in the uncle’s home, they discovered a “suicide note” left by the couple.
“The note led us to believe that they were going to make a suicide attempt,” the source said.
The couple was seen walking along the upper level of the George Washington Bridge before they plunged to their deaths from a height of more than 200 feet above the river. At least one witness saw the pair holding hands as they jumped.
