Movie Sequel News: ‘Through the Looking Glass’ ‘Thor 3’ ‘Snow White and the Huntsman 2’

Sequels, prequels and remakes are all the norm in Hollywood these days so let’s just jump in and confirm that Chris Hemsworth will be going form The Avengers: Age of Ultron to Snow White and the Huntman 2.

While he is certain for Thor 3, the Huntsman project is moving faster and yes, Kristen Stewart will be back (see here for those details.)

Deadline reports Walking Dead creator Frank Darabont may be the name at the top of the list to helm the project, noting that the shortlist consists of Darabont, “Gavin O’Connor and Andy Muschietti.” Expect news soon since Snow White and the Huntsman 2 is expected in theaters in 2016.

To repeat, Disney has been quiet on Thor 3 (here’s a link to a highly speculative plot idea) as they have on Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Can Tell No Tales – no news. It was assumed that Disney would get this into production and then Depp would go on to…

Nicknamed Alice in Wonderland 2, Looking Glass will reunite Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham-Carter and Mia Wasikowska as The Mad Hatter, Queen of Hearts and Alice in Disney’s follow-up to the first successful film. The Wrap reoprtst that Rhys Ifans has joined the cast as the Hatter’s father.

“Ifans is set to play Zanik Hightopp, the Mad Hatter’s father, who cannot hide his bright-colored hair beneath a top hat. Ifans is actually four years younger than Depp in real life, though the actors’ ages don’t really matter, as both will be covered in makeup and other prosthetics,” the article notes.

Ifans played Curt Connors/Lizard in The Amazing Spider-Man.

The Muppets director James Bodin will helm the film which will feature Sacha Baron Cohen as the antagonist, a character called Time.

Through the Looking Glass arrrives in theaters May 27, 2016.

Other Notables:

A sequel to the 2002 hit My Big Fat Greek Wedding will finally move ahead. “Nia Vardalos has written the script for the project and will reprise her role as a first-generation Greek-American woman, while John Corbett is attached to reprise his role as the non-Greek who fell in love with her,” says THR.

Maybe it wasn’t the biggest blockbuster in America, but a sequel to Pacific Rim is moving ahead. “I’m working very, very hard with Zak Penn,” director Guillermo del Toro told BuzzFeed. “We’ve been working for a few months now in secret. We found a way to twist it around. Travis Beacham [co-writer of the first film, now working on Fox’s Hieroglyph] was involved in the storyline and now I’m writing with Zak because Travis has become a TV mogul.”

So a Pacific Rim 2 seems increasingly likely.
