Movie Sequel News: ‘Iron Man 4’ ‘Real Steel 2’ ‘Top Gun 2’ and Karl Urban on new ‘Dredd’ film
There are countless sequels and prequels in development, so here’s some of the latest on a few: Robert Downey Jr on a fourth Iron Man film,
“There isn’t one in the pipe,” said Robert Downey Jr. in an interview with Variety. “No, there’s no plan for a fourth Iron Man.”
Marvel Studios has films planned through 2019 and RDJ will reprise the Tony Stark/Shellhead role for Avengers: Age of Ultron. so don’t be too sullen Iron Man fans. Personally, I think he’ll be back for Avengers 3 which will be the big throwdown against Thanos in an Infinity Gauntlet inspired story.
Real Steel 2
Stealing Hugh Jackman away from the X-Men franchise may be a challenge, but director Shawn Levy confirmed in a Coming Soon interview that a sequel to the boxing film is happening.
“We have been quietly developing a sequel to Real Steel for three and a half years,” says Levy. “We’ve come up with some great scripts but Hugh and I would only make it if the plot feels fresh, but also the character journeys feel fresh.”
“We’ve found both but never at the same time,” he continues. “It’s ongoing. I know the clock is ticking.”
“Hugh and I love that movie so if we can crack it, we’ll make it, but I have this sense that we better make that happen soon or frankly, the audience may not be there in the same way. So we shall see.”
Top Gun 2
THR is reporting the Jerry Bruckheimer is close to a deal to sign writer Justin Marks(Disney’s update of The Jungle Book) as Paramount is serious about a sequel to the 1980s classic film.
“A screenplay had previously been drafted by Peter Craig, focusing on the relevance of traditional pilots in the wake of drone technology, although whether that will be scrapped entirely remains to be seen,” notes the report.
Dredd sequel or prequel
Hardcore fans of the comic may have loved the new Dredd film, but with a lackluster performance, it seems doubtful that a follow-up will happen. Star Karl Urban told the Chicago Comic-Con audience that a prequel is more likely.
“Why yes, there is a definite possibility,” said Urban, “but it is more likely that we will do the origin story with Dredd trekking through the Cursed Earth to find the first Chief Judge Fargo,” The Playlist reports.
Couple of other notes:
Tom Hanks and Ron Howard will start filming Dan Brown’s Inferno in 2015, The Lost Symbol officially shelved for now. The was thought the film could open as early as December 2015. More here.
