Movie News updates: new ‘Blade Runner’ film, ‘Prometheus 2’ and ‘Chronicle 2’
While the movie calendar is jammed packed full, some films are languishing. One of the biggest is a sequel to the science fiction classic Blade Runner. Sadly for fans, the only “Blade Runner” news they are finding is tied to the Oscar Pistorious case.
Ridley Scott is presumably moving ahead on a sequel to Prometheus, but news from Microsoft confirms the Gladiator director is working on a “digital feature film” adapting the popular video game Halo.
Scott and his production company Scott Free will executive produce the film, according to The Wrap. The director is Sergio Mimica-Gezzan, who worked on the Battlestar Galactica TV series.
Blade Runner is stalled again.
As mentioned, Prometheus 2 moves along with news that Sigourney Weaver is set to appear in the new film.
“The connection to the Alien franchise is getting the film fast-tracked, and the studio hopes to win back fans jaded by the tenuous connections in the first film,” Fangoria quotes a source close to the film. “Bringing on Sigourney all but seals the deal, and she’s currently the only other person I can confirm outside of Noomi Rapace and Michael Fassbender for Prometheus 2.”
The source also claimed that Weaver, now 64, is upping her fitness game to prepare for her reinstated role.
Whie Dane DeHaan is set to star in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, a sequel to Chronicle is moving forward at Fox.
Deadline reports that an unkown was been hired to write Chronicle 2, “The studio has hired Jack Stanley to write the script. Who? Stanley doesn’t have any produced credits, but this goes to show how a good script written on spec can change everything for a writer.”
Nothing concrete on a sequel for Blade Runner or Chronicle, but Prometheus 2 is scheduled to arrive in theaters March 4 , 2016.
First of all, the news about Sigourney Weaver and Prometheus 2 is indeed an April fool’s joke from Fangoria.
Second of all, you make it sound like Ridley can only deal with one movie at a time. Sure, he can only DIRECT one at a time, but that doesn’t mean he can’t PRODUCE several others at the same time. He has a production company full of capable producers.
He still hasn’t said which one of these movies he will direct.
I wouldn’t be surprised if he hires new blood to direct Prometheus 2, Blade Runner 2 and Halo, and chooses to direct something different altogether.
I believe Fangoria posted the news about Sigourney Weaver joining Prometheus 2 as an April Fool’s joke.
