Movie News round-up: Matt Damon talks ‘Bourne,’ ‘Tarzan,’ Jack Ryan and ‘Sherlock 3’ updates
Just a round table of updates from several different films.
Matt Damon on returning for a “Bourne 5”

Matt Damon and director Paul Greengrass on the set of “The Bourne Ultimatum”
Universal’s “Bourne Legacy” was a moderate success, earning over $275 million worldwide, but the film was a letdown for fans of the first trilogy. The drug related theme Tony Gilroy and Jeremy Renner brought to the screen was a major direction change from the covert ops presented with Matt Damon’s Jason Bourne.
Damon was asked about returning to the franchise by Deadline.com:
“Paul Greengrass has to want to do it, and secondly and equally important, it comes down to Paul and I knowing what the hell we want to do. We just don’t have a story, and we haven’t had one.”
It’s highly unlikely Greengrass will come to do another sequel, so who would Damon like to see.
“I quietly went to Jonah Nolan, because he and his brother Chris did such a brilliant job on Batman and that whole mythology. I just said, can you put your brain on this? I can’t figure it out. And he took a run at it and he couldn’t crack it either. Paul and I have been talking about it for years. And we can’t quite see what the movie would be.”
Keira Knightley talks Jack Ryan, confirms production wrapping in December
Talking with Collider, the “Pirates of the Caribbean” star discussed her recent films and working on the Jack Ryan project.
“I got to the end of “Anna Karenina” and realized that I’d been sort of doing pieces of work that were incredibly dark and I pretty much died in a lot of them for five years. I wanted this year to be the year of positivity and pure entertainment. So, I did one film called Can a Song Save Your Life? which is about friendship and making an album and possibilities. And, Jack Ryan is a really great, old school, Hollywood thriller and a piece of pure entertainment, and hopefully it will be that.”
Then she added: “I’m currently shooting it in London. I’m nearly at the end of it. I think we finish early December”
Alexander Skargard is likely to be Tarzan
David Yates (“Harry Potter” director) is set to helm the Warner Bros. film adaptation of “Tarzan” and Alexander Skarsgard the “True Blood” star is Yates’ choice to play the vine-swinging hero, sources tell Variety.
Skarsgard doesn’t have an offer and the studio hasn’t finalized any casting decisions for the film, which has yet to go before the studio’s greenlight committee.
“Godzilla” starts filming in March
Seamus McGarvey is the cinematographer is responsible for Atonement, High Fidelity, and We Need to Talk About Kevin, and the blockbuster The Avengers.
The “Godzilla” reboot, directed by Gareth Edwards will shoot soon.
“We start in March. March ‘til June, I think.”
At Comic-Con earlier this year, Legendary showed a tease of Godzilla test footage that Edwards shot that had the crowd going wild. McGarvey revealed that they haven’t nailed down the exact visual approach just yet, but he starts prep next week:
“We still haven’t chosen the direction we’re going visually. I’m sort of testing next week, in fact, for that stuff.”
No “Independence Day” in 3-D
The post-converted iteration of the Will Smith-starrer had been slated for release on July 3, 2013, but Exhibitor Relations broke the news on Twitter that Fox has now decided not to release the pic.
Jude Law gives fans a “Sherlock Holmes 3” update
Talking with Collider the “Anna Karenina” star confirms a third “Sherlock” will come at some point.
“There’s certainly talk of it. I know there’s a script being kinda played around with…but Downey is a busy boy. I’m a busy boy, so we’ll see. I think you picked up on it….we’re a very happy team. We have a lot of fun and we think there’s a lot of legs into that…”

The new Jack Ryan film, starring Chris Pine, will wrap production this month, says co-star Keira Knightley – Paramount Pictures
